The show runs from May 8, 2026 through June 28, 2026.

Opening with an artist reception on May 8, 2026 is an exhibit titled Water from a Rock, featuring the work of Greg Lookerse, an American interdisciplinary artist, author, and educator based in West Michigan. Greg’s life goal has been to help people understand the value of art whether it be his mixed media drawings, installations, or performances. He uses these mediums to question the nature of sacred objects; dissecting them, rearranging them, and often while doing this in finding something fresh and new. Greg has collaborated on interdisciplinary projects such as “Toward Convergence,” a performance with colleagues at Hope College, Holland, MI, which included jazz music, poetry, dance, and Greg’s visual art.
Lookerse expresses:
“In Teaching a Stone to Talk, Annie Dillard paints a poetic picture of a man who keeps a stone on his mantle. A stone which he is teaching to talk. In the Sinai desert water pours forth from stones twice, according to the book of Exodus. For time in memorial, humanity has set up stones as witness to their accomplishments and their foibles, from cairns to monolithic structures.
Water from a Rock is a collection of works that began with contemplations of these stories and more. After a decade I am still looking at stones. I am listening for their cries of ‘hosanna!’“
Greg Lookerse has come to realize that stones are only stable to our human gaze. He asserts, “If one could stare at a stone for a billion years you would see it moving like water. Every stone is a flow. If you look for long enough you will see the water pouring forth.”
Born and raised in Yucaipa, California, Lookerse received his BFA from Biola University and his MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston at Tufts University. He has won numerous awards and grants, exhibited internationally, and lectured extensively.
