Angela - "Body Double by Emily Beyda. A suspenseful story of a young woman who is recruited by a stranger to give up her old life and identity to impersonate a reclusive Hollywood star. Definitely a noir, but also a dive into female identity and fame. Highly recommend this is you like thrillers and Hollywood stories with substance."
Angela - "Broken Promise is the 3rd book and a prequel to The Boy Who Saw by Simon Toyne. Done with all 3 now and highly recommend them all. Mystery, intrigue, history, and Solomon Creed!"
Jim - "I just read this very short book on Native American Wisdom. It's a collection of peaceful words about people, the earth, and the love of nature. One of my favorite lines from the book comes from the Dakota tribe: 'we will be known forever by the tracks we leave.'"
Angela - "A story about a solitary green notebook that brings six strangers together and leads to friendship and unexpected love. This is one of the best books I have read this year!"
Angela - "Fort Wayne's Family Album by Bessie Keeran Roberts, published in 1960, was an historical book about the founding families of Fort Wayne. One of the first female "druggists" lived here and worked at Meyer Drug. Edith Hamilton, author of a Greek mythology guide, grew up here and I used her mythology guide in 8th grade! Many other fun facts and stories in this book look at Fort Wayne's past."
Kasey - "Last week I read The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. It is still on the bestsellers list and for good reason. Much like all of the reviews I read, I couldn't put it down. It is an intriguing story of a psychotherapist, Theo, who is determined to get his patient, Alicia Berenson, to speak. She's a famous painter who has remained silent since she murdered her famous photographer husband six years prior. The story is written from Theo's perspective and chronicles his own issues as he treats Alicia. Readers are able to get a peek into her personality as we are given excerpts of her diary. The book is a slow burn that keeps you close to the edge before it finally comes together. I'm usually able to predict the outcome, but this one kept me guessing until the very end. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to it being made into a movie."
Angela - "Ghost Signs is a book about America's brick wall signs now facing away on buildings. Forgotten flour, chewing tobacco, ice cream, shoes, beer - this history of the signs and their partners is a photo chronology of America's early super-graphics."
Jim: "I am currently reading The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. It is about a man ready to return to his homeland after 12 years of exile of a fictional island. It is made up of 26 different prose poems on a wide variety of topics on life. The books has influenced millions including, The Beatles, John F. Kennedy, and Gandhi."
Jim's current book: Gilgamesh by Stephen Mitchell - "I am currently reading the epic tale Gilgamesh, considered one of the oldest written stories in the world. It’s about 1000 years older than the Iliad and Bible. I’ve read this book twice before and I find new riches with every reading. It’s the story of a king who reigned in the ancient Mesopotamian city of Urak, around 2750 BCE. I’m reading the version translated by one of my favorite authors, Stephen Mitchell. In his introduction Mitchell writes, 'In giving voice to grief and the fear of death, perhaps more powerfully than any book after it, in portraying love and vulnerability and the quest for wisdom, it has become a personal testimony for millions of readers.'”
Angela's next book: The Boy Who Saw by Simon Toyne - "Solomon Creed, the mysterious hero introduced in The Searcher, must stop a killer tied to a conspiracy stretching back over generations to the concentration camps and World War II. Solomon Creed has no recollection of who he is, or where he comes from. Lots of twists and turns make this novel a must read! It's the 2nd in a series of three."
