Brian Ach has a fascinating career in photography. In his show, The View from Here, you will find explorations, his observations, his memories, and his experiences shooting photography all over the world.

Brian Ach was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1970 and holds a BFA from Miami University and an MFA from Florida State University. After moving to New York City in 1998, the events of September 11, 2001 became a defining turning point, leading him to leave a career in graphic design and commit fully to photography.

For more than two decades, Ach has worked globally with Getty Images and the Associated Press, documenting major world events and some of the most recognizable figures in culture and entertainment.

He is particularly noted for his music and touring photography, creating iconic imagery of artists ranging from Jay-Z and Journey to Prince.

His images have received multiple Photo of the Year honors from the Associated Press, USA Today, and other organizations, and have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, TIME, GQ, WIRED, and many others.

Alongside his editorial career, Ach has developed a fine art and conceptual practice exhibited internationally, including at the London Biennale, as well as in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work is held in private collections internationally and in institutional collections including the Museum of the City of New York.

Ach is also the founder of Shoot With A Pro, leading immersive, assignment-based photographic intensives around the world.

“The View From Here brings together works created between 1999 and 2024, the majority photographed on film. Spanning more than two decades, the exhibition reflects an ongoing exploration of observation, memory, and presence—where the impulsive act of taking a photograph evolves into the deliberate process of shaping a final image.

In my work, I am drawn to fleeting moments: quiet gestures, solitary figures, and the subtle melancholy of being alone while surrounded by others. I have always been interested in the tension between intimacy and distance, and in the quiet emotional weight carried by moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. These images are less about spectacle and more about atmosphere, reflection, and the fragile beauty embedded in everyday life.

Working primarily with film has deeply influenced the way I see. The medium demands patience, intention, and trust in the unfolding of a moment. Each frame carries consequence, encouraging a heightened awareness that stands in contrast to the speed and excess of contemporary image culture. Rather than chasing moments, I have learned to let them reveal themselves.

Throughout my career, I have photographed major cultural figures and historic moments, but I have always approached those subjects with the same goal: to move beyond documentation and toward something human and enduring. My work with Prince remains especially meaningful in this regard. Prince was intensely private and endlessly multifaceted—musician, performer, bandleader, guitarist, and visionary. From the beginning, my intention was not simply to photograph a concert, but to capture the artistry, mystery, and emotional presence that defined him.

Ultimately, The View From Here is an invitation to slow down and look closer. In an overstimulated world saturated with images, these photographs ask viewers to pause—to rediscover the quiet power of observation and the beauty that exists within overlooked moments.”
