We are very excited to announce that the Opening Reception will include a live marbling demonstration by Diane Schafer-King
when the show opens on Friday, July 19th from 6PM – 8PM.

This will be an informative experience and give visitors a unique opportunity to see colors come alive and culminate in a combination of colors and patterns.

Diane Schafer-King of De Anna Su Studios is an artist who creates beautiful, one of a kind, marbled patterns. She has put these marbled patterns on paper and fabric, producing a body of work that includes greeting cards, covered journals, framed collage pieces, and art-to-wear silks.

Diane has been learning about and creating art since the early 1980s, along with showing and selling her marbled art creations as a business since 1989. She has a dual career, earning a Master of Arts in Communication and Speech Pathology, and practices in the field. She is self-taught in the marbling medium. Although marbling is a centuries old art form that may be unfamiliar to many people, its colors and patterns are endless and can be appreciated by all.

Garrett Museum of Art is honored to be the venue to house her marbling works. This is the first time this body of work will be exhibited together. There are 57 pieces of retail items, such as marbled silk scarves and pocket squares, greeting cards, journals, and pendant necklaces.

Her Geisha series – dimensional collage pieces with a puzzle-like design – will be on display, along with a cat series.  “Asian Butterfly” will be on loan from a private collector and a collaborative piece called “Heart Center,” created with her husband who is a photographer, will grace the wall.

Diane Schafer-King was born in Michigan but considers Fort Wayne, Indiana, her home. In this region she has exhibited and sold her artwork at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne Three Rivers Art Festival, Covington Art Show, Tapestry Boutique, Arts Festival at Jefferson Pointe, ArtWorks at Jefferson Pointe, Art at the Riverside, Artlink Gallery, Renaissance at Roanoke, SoZo Gallery, and Orchard Gallery.  Nationally she has exhibited and sold artwork in other cities in Indiana, as well as Chicago, California, Michigan, and Washington D.C., and internationally in Canada.

This exhibit will be on display July 19, 2019 through August 11, 2019. The free Opening Reception will take place on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 6PM – 8PM.

Regular museum hours: Friday 5PM – 8PM, Saturday 4PM – 7PM, and Sunday 1PM – 4PM.
