Fred Doloresco’s serious turn toward painting began when he saw an ad in Artists Magazine for a workshop given by Don Stone. Don and Fred became friends, traveling and painting together for a number of years. They traveled to the Caribbean, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, and Ireland, cementing their friendship. Fred also engaged in workshops from a few other people, but it was Rose Frantzen that convinced him that anything was possible.

One of his favorite experiences was painting with many noted painters at the Jeffersonville Rendezvous in Jeffersonville, Vermont. He was joined by about 20 other painters, including five from Russia, to paint the snow of Vermont.

Fred’s love of great painting and his study of the great American Impressionists by books and innumerable museum visits with his wife, Dodie, has rounded out his art experience. He started entering local, regional, and national shows, and after a number of rejections and significant improvement, he was accepted into shows, won awards, and was rewarded with Master Signature Membership in Oil Painters of America. He is also a member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society and American Impressionist Society. Currently, Doloresco has a painting in a five-artist museum show with the American Society of Marine Artists.

Fred has had articles and his artwork featured in numerous magazines including American Art Collector, Northern Indiana Lakes, Audubon Artists, National Arts for the Parks, and Taos Magazine. He is also a member of Hoosier Salon, Indiana Artists Club, Southwest Artists, Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and many other groups.

Fred Doloresco’s work is exhibited at several galleries including Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne, James R. Ross Fine Art Gallery in Indianapolis, Brandt-Roberts Galleries in Columbus, Ohio, Folly Cove Fine Art in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Fearless Cook in Fort Wayne.

His paintings are collected by noted places and individuals such as Midwest America Federal Credit Union, Indiana Tech School of Law, the Garrett Museum of Art, Lincoln Financial in Philadelphia, St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, AIC Ventures, LP in Dallas, Texas, the Prime Minister of Moldova, and legendary golfer, Tiger Woods.

To accompany Fred’s paintings, we will be exhibiting some of his collection of American Modernist jewelry in our Spotlight Gallery. His interest in Modernist jewelry started when he was looking on eBay for a gift for his wife of jewelry made by Georg Jensen, a Danish Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelry designer/manufacturer. While searching, he discovered some Modernist jewelry made by sculptors during WWII, who due to the metal shortage, decided to make one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art. They were unique sculptures on a small scale and were about design, not geology. That led Fred to reading books and magazines on the subject and culminated in a trip to San Francisco to meet Merry Rank, a Modernist jewelry designer. Fred has as part of his collection – a few pieces that were exhibited in the Walker Art Center’s 1948 Exhibition of Modernist Jewelry in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a unique opportunity to see American Modernist jewelry and view its form and function!

Fred will be doing a painting demonstration on Sunday, December 5th from 2PM – 3:30PM at the museum. He will discuss composition, values, mixing color, edges, how to paint skies, backlit subjects, the anatomy of snow, and plein air painting. Of course, Fred will be doing a painting in front of a live audience! This is a must-see event for artists, art lovers, and collectors. The painting demonstration is free, open to the public, and all ages are welcome.
