The Garrett Museum of Art is welcoming Glass Arts Indiana, a collaborative glass community, to exhibit their dazzling, eye-catching glass pieces in a show that runs from October 6, 2023 through December 17, 2023. The show debuts with a free Opening Reception on Friday, October 6th from 5PM – 8PM. An Artist Reception where visitors can meet and talk with the glass artists will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5PM – 8PM.

Glass Arts Indiana supports emerging and established artists, along with hosting interesting and educational events, while increasing the appreciation and understanding of the glass arts. The collaborative also promotes glass-related opportunities in Indiana and all across the US.

Every year new glass experiences are offered and education, exhibitions, and demonstrations happen that introduce the public to the best Indiana, the Midwest, and the US glass community has to showcase.

GLASS ARTS INDIANA: SILICA, is a showing of furnace work; blown, sculptural, slumped and fused, framework/torchwork, mixed media, and will include stained glass and architectural glass. All participating glass artists have several years of skill and experience ranging from three years to those who have spent their lives as professional artists.

The skill sets of the artists extend from graduates with a BFA specializing in glass to self-taught artists. There are incidental glass artists in the group, having found the chance to pursue working with glass as an art material. Other artists participating were trained to work with glass in a professional aspect and then developed their art into a creative side.

The distinctiveness of their glass pieces cannot be overstated. Every single piece is a one-of-a-kind, handmade work of art. These unique works of art are 2D and 3D and in a class by themselves in specialty.

The show is an invitational, which includes glass artists that are part of Glass Arts Indiana, and additionally artists that were included based on their exceptional skill and presentation of their glass art.

With a mission to sponsor, promote, and participate in events to increase Indiana’s knowledge and appreciation of the glass arts, Glass Arts Indiana strives to encourage and support emerging and working Indiana glass artists so that we can learn to view their work with an appreciative eye and an understanding of their contribution to the arts.
