Join us at the Garrett Museum of Art, located at 100 S. Randolph Street in Garrett, on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM to celebrate the opening of our next exhibition, HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COLLECTION.

The show is free, open to the public, and all ages are welcome.
It will run from May 2, 2025 through June 15, 2025.

An art museum’s permanent collection are pieces of art that are assets a museum owns and displays. Most of a collection is not always on display because of the size of a collection and space considerations or the conservation requirements.

The museum has sole ownership of these artworks, meaning they are not borrowed or on loan. The permanent collection can serve a variety of purposes including exhibitions which entails displaying artworks to the public. That is exactly what the Garrett Museum of Art will be doing during its upcoming exhibition, HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COLLECTION. This show will run from May 2, 2025 through June 15, 2025.

Our purpose in displaying these artworks to the public is not only an exhibition for viewers, but an opportunity for them to study various art styles and cultural contexts. A permanent collection is often considered the core of a museum reflecting its roots, identity, and values. GMoA’s collection, for the most part, consists of American art; art local to DeKalb County, regional art, and in recent years, a focus on national American art, which we have exhibited and acquired. The artworks in the permanent collection are maintained for the long-term, ensuring their preservation for future generations.

Join us on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5PM – 8PM for the free Opening Reception! All ages are welcome.
