Join us at the Garrett Museum of Art, located at 100 S. Randolph Street in Garrett, on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM to celebrate the opening of our next exhibition, JARED APPLEGATE : PASSAGE.

As always, the show is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

Admission is FREE.

The show runs from January 9, 2026 through March 1, 2026.

Our first exhibit of the new year at Garrett Museum of Art is a solo show featuring Jared L. Applegate, an artist-educator based in Fort Wayne.

Applegate’s exhibit, PASSAGE, references a physical crossing, a psychological threshold, and a spiritual awakening. The drawings in the exhibit should be viewed as interlocking passages. There are snarling wolves, symbols of danger, that embody the forces we must confront on our journey. As Applegate explains, “The wolves are tucked between wilderness drawings that feel inviting, yet contemplative, and should cause the viewer to become aware of their own vulnerability in life.”

Upstairs in the museum are drawings by Applegate that reproduce some of Caravaggio’s dynamic paintings from the late 1500s and early 1600s. Caravaggio’s paintings act as dialogues within oneself when viewing the heroes of the Christian faith in moments of revelation and transformation.

When put together, all the drawings in this exhibition can be seen as a continuum of passage. Applegate’s PASSAGE confronts the viewer with the question, “Where do you stand within your own threshold?”

Jared Applegate serves as the Chair in the Visual Communications Program at Ivy Tech Community College where he teaches art, design, and Art History courses. His approach to art is diverse, combining education, community work, public art projects, and his personal studio practices. His award-winning art has been displayed in many places throughout the United States.
