For over four decades, Orie Shafer’s work continually evolved from realistic to abstract, and abstract to scientific relationships. His first solo exhibit was held at Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, in 1979. Since then, Shafer has exhibited in over one hundred shows across the United States with solo exhibits in San Diego, Indianapolis, and Chicago, as well as at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
In 1983 and again in 1985, his work won grand prize in the 69th and 70th Indiana Artist Show at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. His work resides in numerous private and corporate collections across the country.
Orie grew up in Garrett, Indiana, and is a resident here now. His careers include being Commander in the United States Navy, art teacher/chair in West Lafayette School Corporation in painting and photography, and art teacher/chair in Tippecanoe School Corporation.
Join us at the Garrett Museum of Art, located at 100 S. Randolph Street in Garrett, on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 6PM – 8PM to celebrate the opening of our next exhibition designed to highlight a life’s work by Orie Shafer: ORIE SHAFER : 40 YEAR RETROSPECTIVE.
The Opening Reception is free, open to the public, and all ages are welcome. The show will run from May 6, 2022 through June 12, 2022.
