Join us at the Garrett Museum of Art, located at 100 S. Randolph Street in Garrett, on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM to experience the opening of our annual exhibition, WOMEN TAKE THE WALLS 2026.
As always, the show is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

The show runs from August 28, 2026 through November 1, 2026.
Our 4th annual WOMEN TAKE THE WALLS exhibition will highlight 14 visionary artists who use an array of mediums that include watercolor and oil painting, photography, nature-based sculptures, handmade jewelry, mixed media cartoon taxidermy animal sculptures, borosilicate and cast glass, textile and fiber collages, hair sculpture, fiber vessels, wearable art of silk and wool, acrylic painting on canvas, and traditional Great Lakes embroidery style native bead work.
Their works will reflect their inspirations and their reimagining of realities. Contemporary sculptures and paintings will live on the walls and pedestals and are pioneered by contemporary women creators. View a series of photographs inspired by the extraordinary found in ordinary moments.
The sky’s the limit as visitors can take in handmade jewelry created by a metalsmith and unique clay sculptures imbued with natural materials from our surroundings. A 4th year return surprise of a hair sculpture made especially for this show by Migena Furxhi, award-winning Avant Garde hairstylist, always amazes!
Cagney King returns with abstract pieces of portraiture, some surreal and all astounding.
GMoA also celebrates the showing of paintings by Miriam McClung, 90 years old, who has painted everyday for 70 years of her life and still paints daily. McClung is a significant Alabama artist who paints landscapes, people, and quiet corners of the South.
Each year there is a LEGACY ARTIST, whose work we honor posthumously. This year we honor Agnes Hamilton, cousin of the Fort Wayne Hamilton sisters. Their statues, along with Agnes’ bronze statue, grace the lawns of Headwaters Park. Agnes was a dedicated social worker who founded the YWCA in Fort Wayne and was also an accomplished painter who documented her travels with her artworks. Several of her paintings from a private collection will be on display.
Altogether, the innovative and unique works by all 14 artists will spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and will captivate viewers! Practices and perspectives will encourage visitors to take a slow look at this exhibit of women artists’ work. GMoA is excited to have area artists and artists from all over the US come together to celebrate creativity and artistic expression.
