Throughout history, humans have used images to tell stories. The earliest recorded illustrations were found in a cave in France circa 15,000 B.C., depicting a timeline of events. As time moved on, the art form grew and was used to honor gods, humans, culture, mythological creatures, funeral scenes, and more. Illustrations were also used as a form of religious education, appearing in illuminated manuscripts in the Middle Ages.
